During her early service in North Africa, Matilda tanks were very difficult to destroy by enemy anti tank crews. However the deployment of new AT guns like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.ronanmcdonald.com\/?p=123\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"123\">Pak 40<\/a> and the use of existing guns like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.ronanmcdonald.com\/?p=102\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"102\">Flak 88<\/a> ended her domination of the theatre. During the early years of their service, Matilda tanks suffered from a chronic lack of HE shells, as all HE shells went to the AT gun crews because they were part of the Royal Artillery.
