Artillery, like all other arms, has a place in anti-tank warfare. Artillery often carry high explosive shells that can punch through the top armor of tanks through pure explosive force, however modern artillery pieces often have dedicated warheads to deal with tanks.
In anti-tank warfare, artillery engages enemy tanks before and during an attack. Artillery can disrupt the formation of an attack, both stressing the vehicles’ occupants as well as destroying vulnerable support infrastructure like ammo dumps and fuel trucks, as well as destroying the tanks themselves. During the attack artillery can help break up formations and bog down advancing troops. All in all, artillery in indispensable to anti tank defense, especially when used with other arms like mines and AT guns, artillery can set up kill zones of pre sighted positions where heavy fire can be directed.
